History

Association of Election Officials in BiH ( AEOBiH ) was established in 1999 in order to provide an independent forum in Bosnia and Herzegovina for the exchange of information between employees and to contribute to the improvement of democratic elections and to ensure public confidence in the electoral process . AEOBiH has over 1000 members from all three constituent peoples from all municipalities in BiH , and include former and current members of election commissions , judges and prominent lawyers .

AEOBiH Secretariat is based in Sarajevo and has three employees. AEOBiH established a structure that includes a Steering Committee (13 members) and legal advice. Members of the Legal Council analyzed the electoral regulations and propose better solutions regarding the content and implications of the BiH Election Law.

AEOBiH implements educational projects related to improving the accountability of elected officials and strengthen the role of citizens in decision-making processes, where they achieved significant results. The Association, in cooperation with the Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH CEC), performs training of political parties and elected officials of the Law on Financing of Political Parties and the Law on Conflict of Interest in the institutions of BiH.

International activities are also significant. Delegation of our members observe elections in other countries, learn about various administrative models, participate in international conferences and visited similar association of election officials in other countries. There has been successful cooperation with many governmental and non-governmental organizations from Bosnia and Herzegovina and the wider region (Central Election Commission, municipal / city Election Commission in BiH, Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired of the Sarajevo Canton, the Council of DPOs Federation, Coordination Committee of Disabled Republic Serbian, GONG Croatia, Serbia CeSID, Agora Czech Republic, USA IFES, IFES Ltd United Kingdom).

With a view to the successful implementation of various projects, the Association of Election Officials during labor have signed memorandums of understanding with governmental institutions (the Council of Ministers, the Government of the Federation, the Government of the Republic of Serbian, Government of Brcko District BiH Central Election Commission).
