Education and mobilization of voters

Association of Election Officials in Bosnia and Herzegovina (AEOBiH) has implemented the project "Education and mobilization of voters" in the period June - November 2008.

The main objectives of the project were:

  • Increase the number of registered voters and voter turnout (with special focus on displaced persons and residents of Srebrenica in 1991) during the local elections in 2008.
  • To increase the capacity of the Central Election Commission (CEC) to address the challenges of active voter registration.

Project activities (intensive media campaign) were particularly focused on displaced persons and residents of Srebrenica in 1991 Godinne, because they were the most inactive in the previous election. During the project, 125 Srebrenica were involved in informing their citizens about the registration process. Also representatives of 113 municipal election commissions are educated about the ways registration and voting turnout in Srebrenica. The total is created and distributed 15,000 leaflets to voters from Srebrenica in the following cities: Srebrenica, Tuzla, Vogosca, Lukavac, Banovici, Zivinice, Ilijas, Kladanj, Kalesija, Srebrenik, Gradacac, Gracanica, Ilidza, Zavidovici, Bratunac. SMS center has been established where the voters have the right information about the address of their polling station. 341.500 leaflets with information about the SMS center is distributed to citizens as well as 600,000 motivational letters that were distributed to civil society organizations and citizens through the daily newspaper
